Invitation to the IDEA League Network Get Together for Alumni on October 9 in Zürich

The second joint IDEA League alumni get together will take place October 9, 2014, in Zürich. Alumni from the IDEA League universities, which includes TU Delft, ETH Zürich, RWTH Aachen, and Chalmers University of Technology, are welcome to attend – be part of it as RWTH alumni! Registration is open till October 3.

T.I.M.E.Alumni Get Together in Lille, France on October 25

RWTH graduates of the T.I.M.E. dual degree program can participate in the second joint T.I.M.E. alumni meeting on Saturday, October 25, 2014, which will be held at the École Centrale de Lille. T.I.M.E. alumni are asked to contact the alumni association for more information and to register.

Impressions: RWTH Aachen Graduation Celebration Has Successful Premiere

The Aachen Dressage Stadium, usually an arena for worldclass horses and riders, served as the backdrop for the first RWTH Aachen Graduation Celebration on Saturday, September 6, 2014. Approximately 1,000 graduates from all nine faculties celebrated the first graduation celebration together with family, friends of RWTH, and representatives from business and politics. A happy highlight was the traditional cap toss. Numerous former doctoral candidates of RWTH Aachen were also honored aside from the fresh graduates. Later that evening they received certificates commemorating their silver and golden doctoral jubilees in the Aula of the RWTH Main Building.

 

Continued Education

Raising Young Women's Interest in Engineering and the Natural Sciences: "Sample Studies for Female Pupils"

The project offers Q1 and Q2 female pupils a glance at the different fields of engineering and natural sciences from October 13 to 15. The highlight of the program is participation in two workshops at RWTH institutes and contact with scientists.

Presentations about studies, applying, and career opportunities round out the event. There are still spots available, especially in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and materials engineering. Registration is open till October 6, 2014.

RWTH Certificate Course “Six Sigma Green Belt”

October 20 to 22, 2014, and February 2 to 4, 2015

In collaboration with the Research Area Metrology and Quality Management at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL at RWTH Aachen, the RWTH International Academy is offering the certificate course Six Sigma Green Belt. The Six Sigma Black Belts teach participants the philosophy and tools needed for implementation. Participants will advance the knoweldge they acquire using practice-oriented exercises, both alone and in groups.

RWTH Certificate Course “Business Model Innovation”

October 29 to 31, and November 13 to 14, 2014

Successful business model innovation is no coincidence. It is the result of a thoughtfully planned out process with dedicated instruments and methods. This certificate course can give you the tools, with which you can systematically approach business model innovation in an established business.

Tickets for the RWTH Gala Ball

The RWTH-Galaball is once again casting a spell with its show, live music, and glamor at the Eurogress. Those who don't want to miss the social highlight of the university calendar, should secure one of the highly sought after tickets. Students and apprentices pay 18 Euros, while all other dance enthusiasts pay 35 Euros. You can buy tickets in advance at the following locations:

    Opening hours: Monday to Thursday from 10am to 12:30pm and 4 to 6:30pm, Friday 10am to 12:30pm
  • RWTH Main Building Info Center
    Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10am to 12 noon and 2 to 4pm
  • Aachen University Hospital
    Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm

Alumni, who cannot buy their tickets at the advanced sales locations, will have the option of buying tickets online starting October 6 at 2pm.

RWTH "Snowevent" Landgraaf

The University Sports Center, HSZ, is organizing its "Snowevent" at the SnowWord ski hall in Landgraaf, which will take place October 28 and is open to all RWTH alumni. The price of 19.50 Euros per person includes the bus transfer, admission, ski pass, ski and snowboard rentals, and a drink.

Dark Matter

The newest results of the AMS Experiment on energetic cosmic ray electrons and positrons were presented, at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, by Nobel Laureate and RWTH Honorary Doctor Professor Samuel C.C. Ting. RWTH Aachen and Forschungszentrum Jülich significantly contribute to the AMS Project.

In the recently published international citation ranking "Highly Cited Researchers 2014,“ scientists are listed, who have great influence worldwide in their field of research. RWTH professors, Carsten Bolm, Dieter Enders, Ralph Panstruga, Magnus Rueping, and Björn Usadel are represented in the current analysis .

Acoustics in Europe

Professor Michael Vorländer, Chair of Technical Acoustics at RWTH, was honored with the 2014 EAA Award from the European Acoustics Association, EAA, for his meaningful contributions to the promotion of research and teaching in the field of acoustics in Europe.
