RWTH Aachen University is one of three awardees in the Ideas Competition for research alumni of German universities, named by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2011. In 2014 it was awarded again for its sustainability strategy.

Taking the needs of our international research alumni into account is beneficial to RWTH Aachen, which wishes to present its international placement as a leading European science and research institution. The aim of RWTH Aachen, therefore, is to further develop and enhance the relationship with our former international researchers.

Anyone who has conducted research in Germany and then gone on to pursue a successful academic career in another country is living proof of how valuable a research stay in Germany is.

Professor Helmut Schwarz, President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, preface of the brochure 2011: Ideenwettbewerb Forscher-Alumni deutscher Universitäten
