Dieter Enders and Rudolf Maier Awarded with RWTH Honorary Title

At this year’s RWTHtransparent event, Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg awarded Professor Dieter Enders with the honorary title of Senior Professor. Furthermore, Professor Rudolf Maier was appointed JARA Senior Professor.

 

At the discretion of the University Senate, this honor is bestowed upon outstanding researchers who, upon their retirement, want to stay affiliated with RWTH Aachen University.

Professor Dieter Enders, born in 1946, was appointed Chair of Organic Chemistry and Head of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at RWTH Aachen in 1985. He is a pioneer in the field of asymmetric synthesis and made seminal contributions to the field of organocatalysis.

 

Professor Rudolf Maier, born in 1949, took on his position at the Institute of Large-Scale Nuclear Physics Equipment at Forschungszentrum Jülich in 1988. There he was responsible for the construction, operation and further development of the COSY cooler synchrotron. Today, the Jülich facility is known worldwide for its fundamental research in the field of hadron, particle, and nuclear physics.

JARA is the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance, is a close collaboration between RWTH Aachen and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
