2020 Women STEM Award Goes to Ina Berenice Fink

RWTH doctoral candidate receives award for her Master’s thesis

 

Ina Berenice Fink, doctoral candidate at the Chair of Communication and Distributed Systems at RWTH, has received the 2020 Women STEM Award. With this award, audimax Medien GmbH and Deutsche Telekom AG are honoring the world’s best Bachelor’s and Master’s theses written by female graduates of STEM degree programs.

The current round of the Women STEM Award competition, future growth fields, focuses on the topics of Cloud, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Networks of the Future. A total of nine prizes were awarded, with Fink winning one of the two overall prizes. Her thesis "Advanced In-Network Security for Smart Devices" focused on the field of cyber security.

She completed her Master's degree in July 2019 after writing her Master’s thesis under the direction of Professor Dr.-Ing. Klaus Wehrle at the Chair of Communication and Distributed Systems. Fink has been working as a doctoral candidate there since September 2019 with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. Her work also focuses on the field of cyber security, especially with problems in the (industrial) Internet of things.

The overall prize in the 2020 Women STEM Award is endowed with 3,000 euros.
