Sensor Technology in the Raw Materials Industry

The not-for-profit Ulrich Thiele Stiftung, a foundation established by the entrepreneur Ulrich Thiele from Iserlohn, has decided to provide funding for an endowed professorship at RWTH's Division of Mineral Resources and Raw Materials Engineering.

The new professorship will focus on “Sensor Technology in the Raw Materials Industry,” a field of research that complements the strategic plan developed by the Department for Mining and Metallurgical Machinery IMR, the Department of Processing and Recycling IAR, and the Unit of Mineral Processing AMR.

The Chair, whose activities are scheduled to commence in 2016, is expected to make significant contributions to Industry 4.0 strategic development in the raw materials sector. It is planned that after a five-year period the professorship will be funded by the Division of Mineral Resources and Raw Materials Engineering.

By supporting research in the sector, the Ulrich Thiele Stiftung seeks to provide new impetus for research and development in the German mining machinery industry. Research in the field would significantly contribute to extending the leading position of the Division in the fields of metallurgical machinery, plant engineering, and process engineering in the raw materials industry.
