Building Research in Dialogue at RWTH

History of architecture work is increasing in importance for monument protection not just due to the purely material aspect of building research but also for the comprehensive management of memorial. The Chair of the History of Architecture is collaborating with the RWTH research unit Building Research and Monument Protection to hold an international conference titled "Building Research in Dialogue - Researching, Maintaining, and Explaining World Heritage Sites," from November 5 to 7, 2015.

The conference will be accompanied by the exhibition "Sabbioneta - An Ideal Renaissance City," which can be viewed from November 4 to 25, 2015, in the foyer of the Reiff Museum. The exhibition includes initial results of the many-year research work being conducted in the northern Italian city, which, as a fortified residence of Vespasiano Gonzagas (1531 to 1591), is part of the world heritage site "Mantua and Sabbioneta". Using various case examples of world heritage in Aachen and in the Italian Sabbioneta, the event offers a space to discuss how research findings of current building research can lead to new and important insights in monument protection and architectural history.
