Spin-off Award 2018
For the third time now, the Transfer and Entrepreneurship Center TGZ has recognized four of the the University's spin-off companies with the "Spin-off Award."

The winners will be presented with the award at this year’s Aachen Technology and Entrepreneurship Conference (atec) on November 30, 2018. The 2018 award recipients are Medical Magnesium GmbH, aedifion GmbH, Polarstern Education UG, and Taxy.io.
Medical Magnesium GmbH
Medical Magnesium GmbH develops metallic, bioabsorbable implants to be used in surgical treatments e.g. of fractures. The implants are mechanically resistant and dissolve in the body after the fracture has healed. The overall aim is to provide surgeons and patients with highly functional, tailored solutions made of magnesium.
aedifion GmbH
The increasing connectedness of buildings through building automation solutions provides one of the most powerful levers for implementing Germany’s energy transition. 40 percent of our energy consumption is related to buildings; however, a large proportion of the building technology in place is operated inefficiently. Aedifion develops manufacturer-independent solutions for the cloud-based operation and optimization of existing building automation systems. These solutions are based on machine learning and artificial intelligence methods and support all those who seek to optimize the operation of buildings by making their work as easy and efficient as possible.
Polarstern Education
Polarstern Education (de) seeks to create modern educational offerings such as online courses and blended learning formats for universities and enterprises. It functions as a one-stop shop for instructors who want to wants to offer digital learning formats, supporting them at all stages of the online course creation process. Technologically, Polarstern Education specializes in open source solutions which can be locally hosted to meet the most stringent data protection standards.
Taxy.io
Taxy.io develops a digital platform that assist legal tax advisors or financial department staff in obtaining relevant tax law information that is tailored to individual tax cases. This innovation, which make use of machine learning and natural language processing techniques, processes tax laws, legal judgments, and the relevant secondary literature to generate tax-related information that is tailored to individual cases and queries of the user.
