RWTH's big graduation celebration is just around the corner. On September 3, hundreds of graduates will toss their caps in the air to celebrate their tremendous accomplishment. To give you a glimpse of what it’s like to be in their shoes, we talked to Johannes Mehler, a graduate in industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering, who participated in last year’s Graduation Celebration with friends and family.
How did you feel about the atmosphere immediately before entering the stadium?
It was just great! Everyone was happy to spend the day together with their loved ones and to be celebrated for all they have achieved over the last few years. I brought my parents, my girlfriend, and three of my siblings to the event.
And how did it feel to be inside the stadium with all the other graduates and be celebrated?
It was a real ‘goosebump moment’ and a great conclusion to my years of study.
Did you continue to celebrate with your family after the ceremony?
Yes, we spent the whole weekend together in Aachen. Since I was in China for some time during my studies, we went to a Chinese restaurant and shared our food. That was another highlight for me.
What have you been doing since graduation?
I work at a consulting firm. Since I already graduated in 2020 – the graduation celebration was cancelled that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic – I already had a job by the time of the event.
By the way …
There are still a few tickets available for graduates and their guests. You can apply for the remaining tickets until August 23, 2022.
