Senate Committees
The Senate has established the following committees and one board for support in managing its responsibilities. The committees serve in an advising role and provide recommendations. However, they cannot make decisions. In contrast, boards can make decisions. For this reason, boards are composed of members from the delegating council, in this case, the Senate.
Elders Advisory Council
The Elders Advisory Council supports the Rectorate and the Chairman or Chairwoman of the Senate with preparations for Senate meetings. Additionally, it advises the Rectorate with urgent decisions and during the lecture-free period. The Elders Advisory Council also advises the Chairman of the Senate with unpostponable affairs. The council consists of members of the Rectorate, the Chairman or Chairwoman of the Senate, the Deputy Chairman or Chairwoman, the Speakers of the Groups, and the Equal Opportunities Officer.
Constitutional Committee
The Constitutional Committee prepares resolutions on the constitution, framework regulations, and other regulations of the university for the Senate. It is composed of ten members from various groups and is headed by the chair of the Senate.
Election Evaluation Board
The Election Evaluation Board consists of five members from various groups and is only called upon in times of need. This applies when an objection arises against the validity of a completed council election and the election adminstration has not remedied it. It is then the responsibility of the Election Evaluation Board to examin the validity of the completed election.
Equal Opportunities Committee
The Equal Opportunities Committee is appointed to ensure equal opportunities for men and women at RWTH Aachen. It advises and supports the university in equal opportunities affairs as well as within the framework of the requirements of the State Equal Opportunities Act. The committee also oversees the implementation of the gender equality plan as well as the distribution of funds in accordance with the requirements of the State Equal Opportunities Act. The committee is composed of two members each from the individual groups and the equal opportunities officer, making a total of nine voting members. The Equal Opportunities Officer also belongs to all other committees without voting rights.
Committee for Quality Improvement in Teaching and Learning
The Committee for Quality Improvement in Teaching and Learning advises university governance on tasks related to the use of funds for improvement in teaching and learning conditions. The examination of the statements of accounts also rests on the committee. Additionally, the committee votes on the progress reports, which must be submitted to the ministry every two years and report on the measures and their success.
Committee for Structural, Financial, and Construction Matters
The Committee for Structural, Financial, and Construction Matters advises the Senate on these matters. It prepares the planned endorsement of planning principlces from the Rectorate as well as planned recommendations and positions of the Senate.
