Division 10.2 – Construction Management

The Division of Construction Management structurally belongs to the Department of Facility Management within RWTH’s Central University Administration.

 

Division 10.2 provides a wide range of services related to construction and land management. In the area of construction, the division's staff assumes oversight of all aspects of the construction process, such as planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing new construction projects, renovating existing buildings, remodeling and renovating within existing spaces, implementing construction due to appointment processes, and screening and evaluating new external leases. Division 10.2 has its own workshop that repairs, maintains, and makes adjustments to objects for various construction trades in the construction sector.

Land Use Management

The Land Use Management team manages, plans, and optimizes existing and future land resources This is where strategic land use strategies, land use needs assessments, and future land use planning are developed. Another focus in land use management is the buildings information system, where all property, building, and room data and all planning documents connected to RWTH buildings are documented and managed.

Relocation Management

Relocation management is also an essential component of Division 10.2. Our relocation management staff members support individual facilities in their relocation planning and are responsible for organizing, commissioning, and implementing relocation measures.

The division consists of four different units:

• Section 10.21 – Project Coordination
• Section 10.22 –  Building Maintenance
• Section 10.23 – Construction Workshop
• Section 10.24 – Area Management

Section 10.21 – Project Coordination deals mainly with new buildings, which are erected by the Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW as well as in-house construction measures or those carried out by an external builder. The section is also responsible for reviewing and evaluating potential new external leases.

Section 10.22 – Building Maintenance carries out structural maintenance, implements construction measures due to appointment processes, and completes conversions and renovations in existing buildings. The section is also responsible for organizing RWTH-internal relocations and managing the warehouse.

Section 10.23 – Construction Workshop carries out repairs, maintenance, and adjustment work for the following construction trades:

• Carpenters
• Locksmiths
• Glaziers
• Painters
• Bricklayers
• Roofers

Section 10.24 – Area Management is responsible for the effective and efficient use of RWTH land. The unit plans for, organizes, and controls land use and the use of buildings. This includes preparing land use balance sheets, space, and occupancy plans, coordinating room changes and conversions, developing land use strategies, and determining space requirements. All building and room data of the entire RWTH space inventory is also documented and managed here.
