Division 8.1 Academic Employees and Assistants
Are you a member of academic staff or employed as a student or graduate assistant at RWTH and have a question about your employment or contract? Have you successfully completed the application process and would now like to be formally hired? The Division of Human Resources will advise you on any questions related to human resources during your time at RWTH.
Our Responsibility
We support all members of academic staff at RWTH Aachen University from the time they are hired to the end of their employment.
We advise you on all human resources matters during your employment at RWTH Aachen and provide you with information about what you need to know.
Furthermore, we hire you as a student or graduate assistant and conclude contracts with adjunct lecturers. Staff to be hired is selected by the University institution or the respective Faculty.
Hiring Process for Academic Staff
After completing your studies (Master's or comparable degree), you successfully applied for a position as an academic employee and now you would like to be quickly hired. You should get in contact with the case worker responsible for you. In order for us to quickly finish your hiring process, please submit all necessary documents. Our checklist can give you an overview of what you need.
Hiring Process for International Academic Staff
The hiring process for international researchers who take up employment in Germany for the first time is managed by our colleagues at the English-speaking desk. We provide you with English versions of all required forms to assist you in understanding the formalities. After the hiring process is complete, one of the staff members listed below will serve as your contact at the HR Department.
Hiring Process for Student and Graduate Assistants
The University institution hiring you will prepare an important part of the primarily automated process, if you are being hired as a student assistant or graduate assistant. Please make sure that the hiring documents are filled out completely and sent with the employment application. Our checklist for student assistants (de) summarizes which documents are needed for a complete employment application. You can calculate your vacation entitlement as a student or graduate assistant quickly and easily with our HiWi-Komfort-Rechner (de). This will also tell you what your gross and net pay is.

You can reach us:
- Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 4pm
- Friday from 8am to 2pm
Please note that some colleagues work part-time. Therefore, if you would like a personal consultation on site, we recommend that you make an appointment in advance with your case worker by phone or email.
