Wildenhof
Sports and Rest for University Members
The RWTH Aachen Wildenhof event venue on the Rur Lake in the Eifel is open from April 1 to October 31 – closed Mondays. Students and members of the University can play sports and relax here. Within the Central University Administration, Wildenhof belongs to Division 10.5 - Infrastructural Facilities Management.
The managers take care of all the guests' concerns and keep the facility running. In winter, external improvements and renovations take place, since almost everything must be simultaneously available from April to October. The caretaker keeps the rooms and renovated facilities clean, puts together grill packets for guests, and offers drinks.
When the weather is good, more than a hundred visitors come to the facility, who sunbathe, or play a round of beach volleyball or boules. Furthermore a pétanque area and ping pong table are available. Others come to rent out sports equipment.
Business Hours and Overnight Accommodation Possibilities
All day guests should sign in with the caretaker team and have their university or student ID ready to show. They will briefly explain the most important rules to newcomers. Individuals who are not granted entrance to Wildenhof are asked to find another spot on the lake. All institutes and institutions have the possibility of holding seminars, workshops, or office excursions from Tuesday to Thursday. Those who wish to stay overnight in the Eifel, can do so either in their own tent on the field, or in one of the 42 beds at Wildenhof. Overnight stays in the building must be booked through the University Sports Center; fees for the tent spots are paid at Wildenhof. Food can also be arranged: either guests can use the self-service kitchen or can loan equipment from the caretakers for an evening bbq. The caretaker team make sure that the gate is closed at 10pm and that peace and quiet at night is abided by starting at 11pm. Wildenhof is not a suitable location for extravagant parties, even if the name indicates otherwise.
