As part of our key duties and responsibilities at Fire Safety we:

  • Issue and continuously update fire safety regulations
  • Train fire safety officers
  • Provide fire safety education and supply information on the topic of fire safety
  • Compile plans and information for the fire department
  • Conduct fire safety drills
  • Conduct building inspections focused on fire safety
  • Participate in construction planning
  • Participate in fire inspections conducted by the fire department
  • Participate in site inspections carried out by building control authorities
  • Advise in the planning and supervision of fire suppression systems
  • Advise in the planning and supervision of gas detector systems
  • Analyze the causes of incidences of fire
  • Provide on-call services for fire events
  • Maintain fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and wall hydrants
  • Routinely maintain natural heat and smoke vents as well as fireproof doors, including catching devices
  • Mount escape and evacuation plans as well as emergency and fire safety signs

The Fire safety team is not responsible for fire alarm systems (or BMA for short in German). At RWTH these are maintained by Department 10.4 – Technical Facilities Management Electrical Systems – specifically area 10.44 Fire Alarm Systems.
