MoveOn

The use of additively manufactured polymer tools for injection moulding offers a cost and time saving alternative to conventional prototype tooling. To adequately use polymer tools, the tool life of a given tool needs to be know before the manufacturing process starts to assess the economic feasibility accurately. Based on part geometry, a tool life prediction can be made. Therefore, an automated geometric evaluation, transferring the 3D-representation of any given part into a quantitative description needs to be developed.

Task

Write a software script, that is able to: Automatically calculate quantitative measures (provided by supervisor) from the geometric representation of a part (ideally STEP-Format) Automatically evalute feautres of the part (e.g. holes, boses, etc.) Automatically calculate wall thicknesses along the part Generate a graphic representation the calculated values

Requirements

Motivation and commitment to generate new ideas and produce new software tools Ability to communicate and work in a team Independent, structured work approach Interest in computer programming, graphical representation and geometric analysis
