Due to the increasing penetration of Distributed Generators (DGs), distribution grids are turning into active distribution networks, requiring advanced solutions to satisfy the limits on the voltage defined by grid standards. To overcome fast variations in the voltage profile, voltage control strategies have been developed to maintain voltage in the limits in all the nodes of the grid. Among them, MPC (model predictive control) solutions have been demonstrated to be very interesting when interfaced with forecasting algorithms.
The student will support the research on this topic by testing the existing MPC algorithm developed in the institute (https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1073/14/7/1965) with different load and generation scenarios and with different reference values. After getting familiar with the code, tests will be performed to evaluate the performance of the control strategy.
