The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Engineering – DGIST for short – is located in the city of Daegu, also known as Daegu Metropolitan City, in South Korea. The city is about 240 kilometers from the capital Seoul and with more than 2.5 million inhabitants, the fourth largest city in South Korea. The city is the center of the Korean fashion industry. As well as the textile industry, the electrical industry, as well as metal processing and mechanical engineering are also particularly prominent in Daegu. The climate in the city is subtropical.
The DGIST is a young state university in South Korea. It is strongly research-oriented and particularly focuses on engineering. The university cooperates with many different research institutes. Further, DGIST is a member of K-Star – Korean Universities for Science & Technology and Advanced Research. There are plentiful research opportunities in the areas of Emerging Material Science, Information and Communication Enigneering, Robotics Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, Brain and Congintive Sciences, and New Biology.
Research internships are available for Bachelor’s students. These last approximately six weeks in March/April or five weeks in September/October. Students can conduct research at a research laboratory of their choice.
