A partnership with the RWTH's Faculty 1 – Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences has existed with the National Institute of Informatics, NII, in Tokyo, since 2008. The NII is the only general research institute for computer science in Japan and is thus primarily oriented towards computer science doctoral candidates.
