Additional Work

If you have performed work that goes beyond that which is required to complete your studies, it can be included on the certificate as additional work. It will then be listed in a separate section at the end of the transcript and neither the grade nor the CP will be included in the overall calculation.

Such work can only be included as additional work if you have submitted it and it was evaluated with at least a "pass" and you have received CP for it. Simply having taken part in the course is not sufficient.

Case 1: You have taken more exams than necessary within your degree program, for example in a compulsory elective or elective area. You can designate the surplus work as additional work. To do so, please submit this application to your advisor, preferably by e-mail, no later than one week after the result of your last examination has been entered. Please note that if you do not submit an application, we will proceed in accordance with the ÜPO and will have to allocate the surplus work to the additional area according to the order in which it was performed. In doing so, we proceed backwards and allocate the last work that you carried out.

Case 2: You have completed work that is not part of the course of study for which you are applying for it to be considered as additional work. In this case, please submit this application as well as, if applicable, the corresponding evidence of the examinations passed to your advisor, if possible by e-mail. This must reach us no later than one week after the result of your last examination performance has been entered.

Work records that you submit to us should always contain the following information:

  • Name of the exam in German and English
  • Name of the examiner
  • Grade (at least "passed")
  • CP
  • Date of examination
  • Signature and stamp of the examiner

Science Assistant

Under certain conditions, your work as a student assistant at RWTH may be recorded in the additional section of your transcript. The following conditions must be met in order for this to be recorded:

  • Position of 10 hours each week (= 120 hours) for at least 3 months.
  • Enrollment in the course of study for which the work is to be recorded for the entire duration of the work
  • Research relevance

Please ask the office where you were employed to complete and sign the form, available via our online forms database. Then have it sent to your clerk at ZPA by email.

Internship Outside Germany

An internship completed outside Germany that is not a mandatory internship in your degree program may be entered in the additional section of your transcript under certain circumstances. The following conditions must be met:

  • Position of at least 2 months
  • Enrollment in the degree program for which the internship is to be registered for the entire duration of the work.

Please get in touch with your relevant faculty contact person using the form, available for download from our online forms database. The examination board is typically responsible for this. Please clarify with them whether they will forward the document directly to us or whether you need to forward it to your clerk at ZPA.
