Certificates
Examination-related performance summaries and other evidence can be obtained from us. We will also be happy to fill out forms from other agencies if we can provide the information you need.
Academic Records
You can print out various academic records yourself in RWTHonline. You will find all available certificates in the application "Certificates (Documents)". You will find instructions in the RWTHonline document portal.
You can print the following certificates yourself from RWTHonline:
- Transcript of records
- Statement of account
- Certificate of registered examinations
- Certificate of completed requirements
- Certificate of early Master's achievements
- Individual performance records
If you need one of these academic records signed and stamped, please contact your advisor by email. We will then be happy to send you the document by email. If you absolutely need the certificate in paper form, you can obtain it during our personal consultation hours. Please book an appointment for this. If you wish, we can also send you the document in the mail.
Deregistered students who no longer have access to RWTHonline should contact their advisor or our service office directly.
Account Statement for the Certificate of Good Standing
If you require a Certificate of Good Standing for enrollment at RWTH Aachen University or another university, we can provide you with the account statement that may be required for this purpose. Please contact your advisor by email for this.
We are also happy to send the certificate to the requesting office directly by email and will copy you in the email. Please let us know in advance if this is possible.
Please note: We at the Central Examination Office do not provide Certificates of Good Standing. If you need them for enrollment at RWTH, please contact your departmental advisor. If you need the certificate for enrollment at another university, that institution must issue you the actual Certificate of Good Standing. Please contact the office responsible there with the Account Statement for the Certificate of Good Standing. For more information on the Certificate of Good Standing at RWTH, see our Certificate of Good Standing page.
Certificate of Degree Completion
After your degree has been achieved in RWTHonline, it takes about two months for the degree documents to be ready for collection. If you need to prove your successful completion in the meantime, we can issue you a Certificate of Degree Completion. We can issue this to you immediately after the last assessment has been recorded.
If you need a Certificate of Degree Completion, please contact your advisor by email. We will then be happy to send you the document by email. If you absolutely need the certificate in paper form, you can obtain it during our personal consultation hours. Please book an appointment for this. If you wish, we can also send you the document by post.
Preliminary Certificate of Completion
We can certify when you are expected to complete your studies. In doing so, we assume that you will be able to achieve 30 CP in one semester. Based on this assumption, we then calculate how many more semesters you will need to achieve the total CP required in your degree program. Please note that we cannot give exact dates, but only the semester in which you are expected to complete your studies.
If you need a certificate of your expected graduation, please contact your advisor at the Central Examination Office by email if possible. We will then be happy to send you the document by email. If you absolutely need the certificate in paper form, you can obtain it during our personal consultation hours. Please book an appointment for this. If you wish, we can also send you the document in the mail.
Form 5 ("BAföG")
We will gladly fill out the so-called Form 5 (Certificate of Performance according to § 48 BAföG) for you. Download the document from the Studierendenwerk website, fill in the points above, and then send it to your advisor by email. We will check whether you have achieved the required credits and confirm this under the item "Leistungsbescheinigung der Ausbildungsstätte", provided that you have the necessary CP. If you have not achieved the necessary CP, we will not be able to complete Form 5 for you. In this case, please contact your departmental advisor. An exception is the degree programs of Faculty 3, for which we can also issue a negative Form 4.
We will send you back the completed form by email. If you wish, you can also book an appointment for our office hours and pick it up in person.
Extending Your Period of Residence
If you need a certificate for your application for an extension of the period of residence to Studierendenwerk, please send the certificate to your advisor by email.
We will be happy to fill out the form for you. The calculation is based on the assumption that you can achieve 30 CP per semester. Based on this, we calculate how many more semesters you will probably need to achieve the total CP designed in your degree program.
Passing Certificate (So-Called "4.0 Certificate")
With the so-called 4.0 Certificate, the examiners of your thesis confirm that you have passed it with at least a sufficient grade. On this basis, we can enter your thesis as passed in RWTHonline even before your examiners have sent us the final reports and evaluations. This is advantageous if you need to prove that you have graduated before the end of the correction period, for example, for enrollment in a Master's degree program or for employment.
You will find the necessary form in our online Forms Database. Fill it out and have it signed by both your first examiner and your second examiner. We can only process the document if both signatures and stamps are present. Please also note that your examiners can only complete the Pass Certificate after you have submitted your final thesis.
Please be aware: The 4.0 Certificate does not serve as proof of degree completion!
FAQ
I have completed a Bachelor's degree program at RWTH and would now like to enroll in a Master's program at RWTH. Do I need my transcript or a Certificate of Degree Completion for this?
No, for the internal transfer from a Bachelor's to a Master's program you do not need written proof of your completed studies. The staff in the Registrar's Office who will enroll you in the Master's program can see your completed degree in RWTHonline.
I wanted to create an account statement in RWTHonline for a degree program in which I have not been enrolled for several years. The document is empty, even though I have completed work in this degree program. What is the problem?
If you deregistered from this degree program before the winter semester 2018/19, your academic record was not transferred to RWTHonline. However, you do not need to worry. We have stored account statements and grade transcripts of all affected students in our document management system for such cases. Please contact your advisor for more information.
