Karlsruhe RWTH Alumni to Tour KIT

During the first RWTH alumni meet-up in Karlsruhe last May, several participants voiced the desire to have another meeting soon. Now a visit to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, or KIT for short, was initiated by alumnus Thilo Dauch. The tour will take place on November 17, 2017 and include a visit to several KIT institutes, among them the Institute for Applied Materials IAM. Professor Britta Nestler, RWTH alumna herself, will be on hand to present the IAM to the visitors. Furthermore, visits to the Institute for Food Process Engineering, BLT-LVT for short, and the Institute for Thermal Turbomachines, ITS. The day will conclude with an enjoyable dinner social at the Höpfner Burghof Restaurant.

A Look Back: RWTH Alumni Toured General Electric Oil & Gas Site in Hürth

23 RWTH alumni accepted the invitation to tour the GE site in Hürth on a Friday afternoon in October, the beautiful Indian summer weather notwithstanding.

A Look Back: First RWTH Alumni Social in Erlangen

On the initiative of Sarah Estarabadi and Philipp Awater a first social gathering of RWTH alumni in the Nürnberg/Erlangen area took place recently. A group of RWTH Alumni of varied ages – having completed their Diplomas anywhere from 1952 to 2015 – met up at the "Kitzmann Bräuschänke" in Erlangen. Most of the alumni who were present work at the renowned businesses in the area, such as Siemens or Bosch, or also at the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen/Nürnberg.

Transport Lawyers honor Professor Christian Huber

At the 2nd Transport Law Symposium hosted by the Working Group for Transport Law in Mainz, Professor Christian Huber, Chair of Civil Law, Business Law and Labor Law, was awarded the prestigious Richard-Spiegel-Prize. This award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions towards the field of transport law and/or, more specifically, the development of the Working Group for Transport Law within the German Bar Association.

Electric Mobility – Opportunities and Risks

"Electric Mobility: Benefit or Harm to the Energy Transition?" – that is the title of the panel discussion, which the Institute for High-Voltage Technology at RWTH Aachen University, IFHT for short, is hosting on November 15, 2017 at 6pm. Moderated by head of institute Professor Armin Schnettler, Panelists Professor Günther Schuh, Ececutive Director of the RWTH Aachen Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering, WZL for short, and founder and CEO of e.GO Mobile AG, Dr. Andreas Cerbe, Network Director and Member of the Management Board of Rheinenergie, Dr. Markus Doll, Director of Grid Development Bundesnetzagentur, and Dr. Christoph Roggendorf, Charging Infrastructure Expert at Porsche Engineering, will discuss the opportunities and risks of electric mobility for the energy system of the future.

Geometry Lab – 3D-Festival

Trick Eye, Zometool, Schattenwurf: Leibniz Award recipient Leif Kobbelt from the RWTH Visual Computing Institute will host the Geometry Lab, a a three-day event at the Ludwig Forum for International Art in Aachen, in order to present geometric constructs and exhibits illustrating current geometry research. Visitors have the opportunity to witness the creation of one of the exhibits: Kobbelt and his team will 3D-print Duane Hanson’s famous Supermarket Lady sculpture in full scale in front of the public.
