News

The “keep in touch” alumni magazine is now available in an online version.

After Hans Schlegel, he is the second RWTH alumnus with space experience: Matthias Maurer spent about six months in space on the ISS (International Space Station) from November 2021 to May 2022. This makes him the 13th German to travel to space. Maurer earned his doctorate from 1999 to 2004 at RWTH Aachen University’s Institute of Materials Science (now the Surface Engineering Institute).

In an interview with “keep in touch,” Matthias Maurer talks about his “Cosmic Kiss” mission in space, why a Mars expedition is not realistic just yet, and what his relationship with RWTH Aachen University looks like today.
