Futures Day for Women Students and Doctoral Candidates
Graduation Today, Career Tomorrow: Equal Opportunities in the World of Work
How do I get off on the right foot when starting my career? Will the future job market offer me new opportunities? How do I want to work later on and what companies reflect my interests? Am I better suited to a career in industry or in science? These are all difficult questions to answer, as there are so many different possibilities. Start a family or focus on your career? Get off to a flying start or find a job with set working hours? And what to do when?
At the online Futures Day on December 7, 2021, female students and doctoral candidates had the opportunity to intensely reflect on these questions and to discuss them with HR representatives and recruiters from industry and academia. It is the sixth Futures Day organized and hosted by RWTH and the second that has taken place successfully in a digital format. Around 200 participants were able to get to know and get in touch with exciting companies as well as a government agency and a start-up founded by a female student from RWTH. During the subsequent panel discussion with some of the company representatives, the questions were addressed in greater depth. In the future, the Futures Day will be continued under the name Digital Career Day for Women.
As part of the online Futures Day, we will be offering talks and workshops for women students, such as Gehaltstraining (Negotiating Your Salary), Kommunikationsgeschick (Communication Skills), Souverän kommunizieren in der Wissenschaft (Science Communication), and Spiele mit der Macht (Power Plays).
The Futures Day was conluded with an online panel discussion for women students titled “Graduation Today, Career Tomorrow? Equal Opportunities in the World of Work.”
