Legally binding information about beginning studies is published each semester in the brochure RWTH-Info zur Studienaufnahme at the beginning of May for the following winter semester and the beginning of December for the following summer semester.

Carefully read the information, note your questions, and make sure to get these answered before the application deadline passes. The Student Advice Centre and Registrar's Office offer presentations about the application process each year.

What Does 'Open Admission' and 'Restricted Admission' Mean?

'Open admission' means that all applicants meeting the formal admission requirements, such as having a higher education entrance qualification, will be admitted to the course of study.  

'Restricted admission' means that the number of available placements is limited. All applicants who meet the formal admission requirements, such as having a higher education entrance qualification, are eligible to participate in the allocation process. However, the admission process is selective and competitive, that is, not all applicants will be admitted to the course.

Applying for an Open-Admission Single-Subject Bachelor's Program

First, please register with the Application and Enrollment Wizard via RWTHonline. Then you can submit your application there. Please make sure to submit all required documents within the specified deadline.

Applying for a Restricted-Admission Single-Subject Bachelor's Program

All RWTH restricted-admission single-subject Bachelor's courses of study participate in the dialogue-oriented service process for undergraduate degree programs, DoSV for short. In a first step, please register with the Hochschulstart Portal.

Upon successful registration, you will receive two codes, an applicant ID (BID) and an applicant authentication number (BAN). You will need these codes when submitting your application to RWTH Aachen University. Please register with the Application and Enrollment Wizard via RWTHonline. Applications for German Citizens With an International University Entrance Qualification

German nationals who have an international university entrance qualification must have their high school certificate recognized, including having the foreign grade converted into the German grade system, both for application and for enrollment.

The Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle in Düsseldorf is responsible for the recognition of certificates (including grade conversion) of the university entrance qualification for German citizens wishing to study in North Rhine-Westphalia.

If you have applied to have a certificate recognized in another federal state, please submit it with your application and at your enrollment. We will also recognize them.

Since this process usually takes some time, it is strongly recommended that you contact the Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle immediately after receiving your certificate in order to apply for recognition!

Applying for a Restricted-Admission Multiple-Subject Degree Program

First, please register with the Application and Enrollment Wizard via RWTHonline. Subsequently, submit your application there within the specified deadline. Please make sure to submit all required documents by the late application deadline at the latest.

All applicants who meet the formal requirements, such as having a higher education entrance qualification, are eligible to participate in the allocation process. This process is selective, so it cannot be guaranteed that all applicants can be admitted. To be admitted to a multiple-subject course, you need to gain admission to each of the subjects.
