Program Description
Profound skills in computer-aided simulation techniques in mechanical engineering are of growing importance for every engineer in all industries. The M.Sc. Computer Aided Conception and Production in Mechanical Engineering (M.Sc. CAME) addresses this demand and combines sound knowledge in manufacturing, design, automation, production and simulations, training students to create digital replicas of technical objects and systems to provide simulation solutions for complex design tasks in mechanical engineering. The program will deepen the knowledge in key engineering fundamentals such as the finite element method, numerical methods, and continuum mechanics.
Students will develop a strong profile as a computational engineer to meet the challenges of today’s changing manufacturing and production.
Degree Content
The M.Sc. CAME is a full-time study program on campus in Aachen, leading to a M.Sc. degree to be awarded from RWTH Aachen University. Students can choose between two study tracks to fit their personal interest best:
- Conception of Machines
- Production of Machines
Both tracks are built upon common core courses, a range of electives and practice elements such as exercises and laboratory sessions, allowing students to specialize in their field of interest. In addition, an industrial internship or a research project work (mini thesis) are an integral part of each study track. Students learn to design, engineer an apply cutting-edge computer simulation technology for high-tech products to enhance mechanical design and production. To do so, they will also learn how to read and understand complex technical drawings.
For more detailed program information visit RWTH International Academy, the course of study website.
Prerequisites
A prerequisite for starting this course of studies is a first university degree which proves the necessary background education as determined in the examination regulations. Furthermore, a GRE certificate with the min. scores of 145 VR, 160 QR, 3 AW as well as practical work experience of at least 6 months are mandatory admission requirements. The examination board determines whether the applicant fulfills the entrance requirements.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the M.Sc. CAME will be computer-aided engineering (CAE) specialists, well equipped to perform interdisciplinary work and qualified for leading positions industries such as automotive industry, the environmental sector or biomedicine. As CAE and CAD experts graduates will know how to implement industry-specific software systems for an industrial business environment and solve complex tasks in R&D or industrial production. After being awarded the RWTH Aachen University Master's Degree, graduates will be qualified for doctoral studies as well.
Examination Regulations
Regulations that apply for all Bachelor and Master courses of study as well as detailed information about the necessary documentation of required language skills can be found in RWTH’s General Examination Regulations.
Subject-Specific Examination Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains a description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.
Some regulations have been translated or are currently being translated into English. Please note, however, that examination regulations are officially published in German and this is the only legally binding version!
Faculty
The M.Sc. Computer Aided Conception and Production in Mechanical Engineering is a practice orientated program led by one of the oldest institutes at RWTH Aachen University, the Institute of General Mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
For Your Information
RWTH Aachen offers some of its courses of study in collaboration with other (private) institutions. They are not part of the courses of study under public law, and thus are not governed by legal guidelines, e.g. university placement allocation. Some have tuition fees and require a period of professional experience.
Information about prerequisites, application processes, the university placement allocation process, and academic content is available from the host institution, to which you are applying.
