Program Description

Robotic technology and cyber-physical systems are widely applied in different ways, such as industrial machines, automobiles, (micro)-electric industries, as well as aerospace and air transport industries. The M.Sc. Robotic Systems Engineering (M.Sc. RoboSys) is tailored for robotic specialists and provides multidisciplinary education in the areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer sciences. At RWTH Aachen’s Institute of Mechanism Theory, Machine Dynamics and Robotics, students will be exposed to the most advanced techniques of mechanics, electrical drives, sensor technology and information processing. Preparing them to develop, implement and program innovative and smart robotic solutions. These intelligent robotic systems will help solving today's most pressing global challenges: industrial productivity, energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, healthcare, and mobility services.

Degree Content

The M.Sc. RoboSys is a full-time study program on campus in Aachen, leading to a M.Sc. degree to be awarded from RWTH Aachen University. The program offers two study tracks to specialize in:

  1. Industrial Track
  2. Academic Track

Main topics in the curriculum are computer vision, multi body dynamics, machine learning, advanced robot kinematics and dynamics, simulation, robotic sensor systems, advanced machine learning, mechatronics and control techniques for production plants, automation technology for production systems, technology management, and industrial logistics.

For more detailed program information visit RWTH International Academy, the course of study website.

Prerequisites

A prerequisite for starting this course of studies is a first university degree which proves the necessary background education as determined in the examination regulations. Furthermore, a GRE certificate with the min. scores of 145 VR, 160 QR, 3 AW as well as practical work experience of at least 6 months are mandatory admission requirements. The examination board determines whether the applicant fulfills the entrance requirements.

Career Prospects

Master’s graduates of the M.Sc. RoboSys will be qualified to work in various field of the “Industry 4.0” in R&D, consulting, or manufacturing. With their broad knowledge in design, manufacturing, production, planning and management, they are especially well prepared to perform interdisciplinary work. Robotic engineers will be experts in understanding the optimal use of robots in operational and production processes as well as identifying future issues, technologies and developments in the field of robotics. After being awarded the RWTH Aachen University Master's Degree, graduates will be qualified for doctoral studies as well.

Examination Regulations

Regulations that apply for all Bachelor and Master courses of study as well as detailed information about the necessary documentation of required language skills can be found in RWTH’s General Examination Regulations.

Subject-Specific Examination Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains a description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.

Some regulations have been translated or are currently being translated into English. Please note, however, that examination regulations are officially published in German and this is the only legally binding version!

Faculty

The M.Sc. RoboSys is a specialized interdisciplinary program led by the Institute of Mechanism Theory, Machine Dynamics and Robotics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In line with this interdisciplinary approach, lectures and courses are also offered by departments from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences, as well as the School of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen.

For Your Information

RWTH Aachen offers some of its courses of study in collaboration with other (private) institutions. They are not part of the courses of study under public law, and thus are not governed by legal guidelines, e.g. university placement allocation.  Some have tuition fees and require a period of professional experience.

Information about prerequisites, application processes, the university placement allocation process, and academic content is available from the host institution, to which you are applying.
