RWTH and Tokyo Institute of Technology Expand Collaboration
RWTH Aachen University has been collaborating with Tokyo Institute of Technology since 2007. Now the ties between the universities are further strengthened with the establishment of a European liaison office of the Japanese university in Aachen. Further partners are Forschungszentrum Jülich and businesses from North Rhine-Westphalia.
On the occasion of the opening of the European Office, Professor Ulrich Rüdiger, Rector of RWTH Aachen University, and Dr. Kazuya Masu, president of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, welcomed numerous guests to RWTH, including Dr. Beate Wieland from the NRW Ministry of Culture and Science; Matsuo Iso, Consul General of Japan North Rhine Westphalia; Margarethe Schmeer, mayor of the City of Aachen; as well as a 30-member delegation from Japan and representatives from business, industry, and research.
Moreover, professors Sven Ingebrandt (RWTH) and Masahiko Hara (Tokyo Tech) hosted the kick-off session of a joint workshop on sustainable energy.
The universities seek to expand their collaboration on the design and delivery of joint workshops and summer schools. Furthermore, new mobility opportunities for both students and staff will be created. The next meeting between representatives from RWTH and Tokyo Tech is scheduled to take place in May 2019.
