Chemistry for a Brighter Future
The Chemistry Department of RWTH Aachen University is organizing a public lecture series.
The lecture "Bioplastics - too valuable to be used only once" by Professor Sonja Herres-Pawlis from the Chair of Bioinorganic Chemistry and Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, will take place on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 5:15pm in the AOC Lecture Hall, Landoltweg 1a, 52074 Aachen, Germany. This will take place as part of the public lecture series "Current Research in Aachen: Chemistry for a Brighter Future" which is being organized by the Chemistry Department.
In many areas, bioplastics are used as an alternative to conventional plastics. In her presentation, Professor Herres-Pawlis will shed light on where bioplastics come from, how they were produced and what options exist for them after use. Composting is often one option, but in the context of the circular economy, entirely new types of upcycling are now opening up, further increasing the sustainability of the bioplastics approach.
The individual events of the lecture series will take place on Thursdays at 5:15 pm in the AOC lecture hall. The lecture topics are presented in a generally understandable way, meaning that no special prior knowledge is necessary.
