Research Partnership With NICT in Japan
RWTH signs a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan.
As part of the BMBF-funded research program "6GEM Research Hub", RWTH signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT) in Japan. To this end, a delegation from NICT visited RWTH in June. Professor Hideyuki Tokuda, President of NICT, led the delegation and sealed the memorandum of understanding together with Professor Ulrich Rüdiger.
This is intended to facilitate the expansion and further development of academic collaborations in the field of 5G/6G wireless technology between the two partner institutions. In addition to exchanges of scientists and students, the partnership also focuses on joint research activities, publications, and sharing knowledge of 5G/6G mobile communications technology.
The partnership was initiated as part of the "6GEM Research Hub" by Professor Haris Gačanin from the Chair of Distributed Signal Processing at RWTH, who coordinates the joint project. In the project, RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen work together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems, the Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques FHR, and the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy on future communication technologies in 6G mobile communications.
