Congratulations on being accepted as a new international student at RWTH Aachen University! We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Aachen soon.
To give you a good start into your studies and to welcome you to Aachen, we are looking forward to seeing you at the Welcome Week for new international students from September 25 to 29, 2023. Participation to the Welcome Week events is free of charge as all new international students are expected to attend! During the Welcome Week you will get to know institutions, associations and important services of RWTH and meet with other new students.
Preparing for your studies is essential to enable you to complete them successfully. That is why we have collected important information on various topics. Watch the following videos carefully to answer any initial questions that you may have before you start your studies. You can meet staff from all the institutions during our Welcome Week and ask any questions which may not have been answered yet. In addition, you will find links to the websites of the institutions next to the videos, where you will also find important information that will prepare you for your studies.
Before visiting an office, always check the official office hours on the respective website; in person and also by phone. Some facilities only offer online consultation hours or appointment hours.
Enrolling With RWTHonline
As a new international student, your enrollment at the University will give you access to many further services and processes that you will have to complete at the beginning of your studies. The Admissions Department of the International Office will tell you about the enrollment procedure with RWTHonline.

Housing will be one of your biggest challenges as international student at the beginning of your stay in Aachen. Check out the Housing Advice Service for tips on how to search and apply for accommodation.

Immigration Office of Städteregion Aachen: Applying for Residence Permit
Students with a non-European nationality generally need to apply for visa to travel to Germany and apply for a residence permit once they have settled in Aachen. RWTH IT Center: Making use of IT Services
The IT Center will guide you through important tasks such as getting your login credentials and setting up your IT services, using self-service to change your passwords or connecting to the University’s Wi-Fi.

Studierendenwerk
Attending to student welfare is the Studierendenwerk‘s main task. They work to create the perfect social environment for successful study, taking care, for example, of housing in the student dormitories, good food in the refectories at RWTH (and FH), and financial support, such as Bafög and childcare for students with needs.

Health Insurance
The Welcome Week partners Techniker Krankenkasse and AOK will be happy to answer all the questions you have about health insurance and guide you through the process of getting a policy in Aachen, e.g.:

Student Advice Centre
If you have any questions about studying, you can contact the Student Advice Service. Lectures and workshops are offered on various topics, such as study doubts, change of subject and reorientation. In addition, the Psychological Counseling Service is located in the Student Advice Service. After you have received your TIM ID, you can complete a detailed online self-study course on the topic of studying at the Student Advice Service.
