RWTH to Host the 2023 Graduation Celebration
On September 2, the University will celebrate its graduates along with 5000 guests. The keynote speech will be given by Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner.
RWTH Aachen University will bid farewell to its graduates on Saturday, September 2, starting at 1:30pm at the big Graduation Celebration in the ALRV dressage stadium at Aachen's Soers. Around 5,000 visitors are expected again - including 1,300 graduates who will be accompanied by their friends and families. The event is completely sold out.
Graduates of all faculties and degree types - Bachelor's, Master's, state examination and doctorate - of RWTH Aachen University of the summer semester 2022 as well as the winter semester 2022/2023 are invited. A highlight of the program, in addition to the joint throwing of the mortarboards, is the keynote speech by Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner. She is a member of the Board of Executive Directors at BASF SE and will be awarded the Aachener Ingenieurpreis by RWTH Aachen University and the City of Aachen on the evening of September 2 in the Coronation Chamber of Aachen City Hall.
Two hours of entertainment is planned
The two-hour program will also feature Aquarell Dance Crew from the Association of Chinese Scientists and Students in Aachen (VCWSA), the dance groups Herencia Latina and AachenSuyo e.V., Mayor Sibylle Keupen, and Simon Roß on behalf of the AStA of RWTH Aachen University. The program will be hosted by RWTH Rector Ulrich Rüdiger and Vice-Rector Sabine Brück along with Chancellor Manfred Nettekoven. Music will be provided by the Big Band of RWTH Aachen under the direction of Jacques Cuypers together with DJ Alex Hövelmann. Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, will send a video greeting.
Particularly successful graduates will be honored in the run-up to the program in the stadium. The proRWTH University of Applied Sciences sponsoring association presents the Springorum memorial coin to honor graduates who have passed their Diplom main examinations, Master's or Magister examinations, or teaching examinations with distinction. The Borchers plaque is awarded to graduates who have completed their doctorate with "summa cum laude". The central Graduation Celebration for graduates of all nine faculties of RWTH Aachen University has been being held in this form since 2014. The event is supported by proRWTH, the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the sponsors Evonik, MLP and UMLAUT.
