Specialist German Courses for International Students

The RWTH International Office, in cooperation with the RWTH Language Center, offers courses with experienced instructors from the Language Center for international students of RWTH to support them with technical language skills during their studies.

 

Course 1: Intensive Grammar Training (with guidance for further self-study)

Date: October 16, 2023 to February 2, 2024, Wednesdays, 8:30am to 10am.

Course format: Zoom

Course content: You will review important basic grammar of the German language and learn how to train your grammar skills independently. You will identify where you still have problems with the grammatical structures and, together with your instructor, develop exercises with which you can train independently.

Aim of the course: Improvement of oral and written expression and reading and listening comprehension.
Level: from B1.1

 
 

Course 2: Speaking and presenting (with focus on technical German)

Date: October 16, 2023 through December 18, 2023, Mondays 12:30pm to 2pm.

Course format: Zoom

Course Content: In this science/engineering language course, you will be able to transfer your existing skills into German through a combination of technical language and speaking/presenting on STEM topics and use German in a technical context. The course also provides space to address intercultural challenges.

Course Objectives: To prepare students for University by helping them acquire basic vocabulary and linguistic structures related to science and technology (STEM), practice presenting and speaking on technical language and factual topics.

Level: from B1.2

 
 

Course 3: German for work and career

Dates: October 16, 2023 to December 18, 2023, Mondays 2:30 to 4pm.

Course format: Zoom

Course content: Many international students look for a job in a German company or research institution during or after their studies at RWTH. When starting a career and in the initial phase of working life, in addition to special linguistic structures and technical terms at work, the work culture and dealing with colleagues can also pose a challenge. In the course, linguistic structures, formulations and typical vocabulary from different areas of working life are taught using examples. In addition to learning strategies for specialized vocabulary, dealing with linguistic and intercultural problems is discussed. The respective areas of expertise of the participants will be taken into account.

Aims of the course: To approach the topic of working in Germany and to build up necessary competences on the topic of work.

Level: from B1.2

 

Registration

Please register by by September 15, 2023 with a copy of your residence permit and blue card (please submit copies of both sides of the documents).

If you attend regularly, a certificate of attendance will be issued by the RWTH Language Center.
