You can find which self assessment you need to take for this subject in the course of study description under "Prerequisites". You will need to show proof of participation in a subject specific self assessment in order to enroll (not to apply). You can print out the participation certificate yourself.

How can we optimally use volatile sources of energy like the sun, wind, and water? Can we care for premature babies without disruptive cables? How can graphene optimize the production of tiny machines like processors? How can large sets of data be compressed and transported without loss?
Electrical engineering develops devices and processes that make modern life safer and easier.
The field of electrical engineering directs its interest to a broad spectrum of topics including energy supply, information transmission, robotics, medical technology, and automatization technology.
In order to do this spectrum justice, RWTH has unified two disciplines into a single course of study: Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
The combination of these two fields opens up a variety of possibilities to students and offers them a high degree of both field-specific and cross-disciplinary flexibility.
Students receive a technical foundation comprised of thorough and demanding basic training in mathematics, physics, computer science, and key electrical engineering topics. They can call upon these later when faced with specific tasks.
After their concentrated, fundamental studies, students select one of four specializations offered:
- Energy Engineering (ET) focuses on safe, ecological energy supply, creating the technical prerequisites needed for the energy transition.
- Information and Communication Technology (IC) optimizes signal processing and transmission, mobile information systems, and their functional interconnection.
- Micro- and Nanoelectronics (ME) takes into account the need for smaller and smaller building components and coatings. The field is currently conducting research on two-dimensional storage elements.
- Biomedical Engineering develops (BMT) solutions for problem areas in medicine with the help of techniques or machinery, for example improving medical imaging or cardiac pacemakers.
During the first four semesters students acquire fundamental skills. The challenging mathematics courses, in particular, provide them with the understanding needed for technical principles, structuring concepts, and complex processes. An institute project offers a look at current research methods and fields of application in their chosen elective. An industry internship is not required but can be completed on students' own initiative.

Electrical engineering is facing challenges of global importance. International experience is becoming increasingly important for budding engineers and often plays a decisive role in shaping one's career. Studies and internships abroad provide students not only with technical knowledge but also cultural skills and communication skills.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology offers partnership programs with outstanding European and non-European universities. Aside from the EU mobility program ERASMUS+ it also offers academic stays in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Morocco, for example. Additionally, the T.I.M.E. double Master's program offers excellent opportunities for students to pave the road for an international career.
RWTH students profit not only from the Faculty's exchange programs but also from the University's strategic partnerships with international universities. They can, for example, complete short stays at one of the IDEA League universities while completing a term paper. The UROP Abroad program, the only one of its kind in Germany, offers students the opportunity to participate in research projects at international universities already during their Bachelor studies.These stays abroad are partially funded by RWTH-specific funding.
Electrical engineering has the highest percentage of mathematics courses of all the engineering disciplines. Individuals interested in mathematics, who enjoy applying calculations more than pure mathematics proofs, will feel at home in this course of study. It focuses on developing solutions for technical problems with the help of mathematical methods – passion for logical thinking and physics is another prerequisite for successful studies. Preference for mathematics and physics in school are the first indication that individuals will also enjoy studies. Interest in independent, meticulous work and a certain tenacity for developing solutions are a must. Since many solutions are developed on a computer, you should have basic interest in computer science as well. Programming skills are not expected at the beginning of studies but are a good aid. RWTH Aachen offers bridge program before classes start to intensify and complete your knowledge.
Proof of having completed the RWTH "Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Computer Engineering" Self Assessment – must be given at the time of enrollment, not yet when applying.
Many courses of study specific to application areas of electrical engineering are offered throughout Germany and abroad. These offers are good alternatives for those who already know in which field they later want to work or conduct research. The broad layout of the Aachen course of study consciously creates a different educational path: comprehensive fundamental studies with a high percentage of mathematics, computer science, and technical subjects, and unique specialization options building on that. This concept speaks to prospective students who want to keep their options open for later concentration and generally want more flexbility later in their careers. Electrical Engineering with orientation semester
From summer semester 2019 onwards, the bachelor degree program Electrical Engineering with orientation semester will be offered by RWTH Aachen University in collaboration with FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences.The target group for this degree program are students who would like to get an inside view of the degree programs of both FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences and RWTH Aachen University before making a decision regarding their career path, type of university, degree program and choice of specialization. Electrical engineers possess advanced skills and are highly sought after in both the national and international job market.
This is particularly true for RWTH graduates, who possess not only oustanding fundamental training but refined skills in research and development. They work in research and development departments in automation engineering; telecommunications; mobile communications; the energy sector; image, sound, and speech processing; microsystem engineering, nanotechnology, and medical technology. They may develop new electronic systems or sustainable products that save energy. They work in cleanrooms on the smallest two-dimensional storage materials and optimize the effectiveness of large energy-saving facilities.
Due to their broad foundation of knowledge, methodological skills, and problem-solving skills electrical engineers are also valued as generalists. They can implement their skills in project management, communication, and consulting.
Regulations that apply for all Bachelor and Master courses of study as well as detailed information about the necessary documentation of required language skills can be found in RWTH’s Comprehensive Examination Regulation. Examination regulations are only published in German as they are legally binding.
Subject Specific Exam Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains the description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.
The Bachelor course of study in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Computer Engineering is offered by the Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
