Paths to Rational Energy and Climate Policies

06/05/2019

Professor Christoph M. Schmidt will give a talk on "Doing the Sensible Thing Sensibly: Paths to Rational Energy and Climate Policies" on Thursday, May 14, 2019.

Schmidt is the president of RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen and chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts – an independent body that advises German politicians on economic affairs.

This talk starts at 8 pm at Super C, Generali Hall, Templergraben 57 in Aachen. The event is part of the JARA ENERGY Talks and is free of charge. The talk will be held in German.

Following his talk, Professor Schmidt will take questions from the audience.

Fossil fuels have served as a primary source of energy. Professor Schmidt believes that a credible and economically efficient strategy is still lacking to achieve the global targets that have been agreed on. The economic expert will not only outline the challenges implicated in the energy transition, but proposes solutions to implement. For example the economist sees the introduction of consistent carbon dioxide pricing as a promising approach, however also considers the global emissions trade and the introduction of a worldwide tax on carbon dioxide to have great potential.

JARA ENERGY Talks

The JARA ENERGY Talks are a collaborative series of talks between the RWTH institutions Flexible Electrical Networks FEN Research Campus, E.ON Energy Research Center (E.ON ERC), and the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives, as well as RWTH and Forschungszentrum Jülich as part of the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance (JARA). The series is intended to provide information on the current state of research and development in the field of power supply and all its components. The JARA ENERGY Talks also serves as an opportunity for those involved in the energy field to talk to leading experts.
