Dates and Deadlines
Students advanced the academic qualifications they acquired in their Bachelor studies by studying increasingly more complex subject content in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Master course of study Psychology. Students should become able to have an understanding of larger topics in pyschology, apply scientific findings and methods in the work world, and to reflect on and implement their importance and scope for solving complex research and social problems.
Content of the Course of Study: This Master's program serves to develop and deepen specialist knowledge in the fields of applied cognitive psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, as well as health psychology and the practice of particular psychological research methods.
Students focus on following areas:
Cognitive Psychology
Executive functions, cognition, and activity
Industrial Psychology
Occupational safety, working conditions, strains, and stress
Personnel and Organizational Pyschology
Selection and assessment of personnel, staff development
Health Psychology
Basics of health psychology, diagnostics of health psychology, and intervention techniques
Elective supplement the mandatory courses in every area. In the electives, students advance their basic knowledge and can practice applying the material they have learned. By picking a project module, students also acquire their first practical experiences in one of the fields of application.
Methodological training teaches material in the following areas:
- Psychological Diagnostics: testing and deciding, test design and analysis, preparation of reports
- Research Methods: measurement and scaling models, multivariate processes, evaluation research
The Master course of study is supplemented through courses on the presentation and communication of one's own research findings and current findings in literature and research.
Degree Content
The Master course of study in Psychology is laid out in modules. The instruction modules are separated into modules for advancing knowledge in various areas of application, a project module to acquire practical experience in an area of application, modules for expanding methodological skills, and modul on communicating research findings. Students complete a Master thesis during the fourth semester.
Prerequisites
A prerequisite for starting studies in a first university degree, with which the necessary background education can be proven, as determined in the exam regulations. The exam board determines whether it fulfills the entrance requirements.
Career Prospects
The Master course of study in Psychology prepares graduates for work as an expert in human resources and organizational management in public offices, in the industry/economy, and for a research career. Fields of occupation include human resources, company, and organizational consulting; educational institutions or further occupational training, occupational safety and ergonomics, technical testing centers, rehabiliation institutions, surveying, and social science research institutions.

Examination regulations are only published in German as they are legally binding.
Subject Specific Exam Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains the description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.
