Costs
In this section, we provide an estimate of the minimum costs for accommodation and living expenses for students at RWTH Aachen University. It is estimated that a single student living in Aachen will need at least 1,100 euros a month to meet basic living expenses.

Please also note that a single person must prove a minimum monthly income of 861 euros to the Immigration Office in Aachen in order to have their residence permit extended. The minimum amount you need to have at your disposal to cover your living expenses for one year in Germany is 11,208 euros.
With the increase in the BAföG maximum rate to 934 euros per month, which will take effect in the winter semester of 2022/23, the amount for the proof of financial support to be provided by international students will automatically increase in line with this, see section 2, paragraph 3, sentence 5 of the Residence Act.
The embassies and consulates follow the instructions of the Federal Foreign Office; here, the amount for the proof of financing per blocking account, which has risen accordingly to 11,208 euros per year, will be applied on January 1, 2023 when the visa is issued, see the Federal Foreign Office website.
The social contribution fee for winter semester 2023/24 amounts to 318.66 euros.
