RWTH Awards Teaching Prize
Process Engineering Project and Instructor of the Year Awarded.
RWTH has awarded a prize in two categories to honor excellence in the area of teaching. The prize has been awarded since 2001 and comes with prize money for both categories, which will be invested in research and teaching. Vice-Rector Aloys Krieg presented the 2018 Teaching Prize for the winning project in the project category, Applied Product Development in Process Engineering, and to Christina Büsing for Instructor of the Year.
Instructor of the Year
Büsing is Junior Professor of Robust Planning in Medical Care and was recognized for her modern teaching and learning concept, innovative use of technical media, and high-quality supervision of students. The mathematician encourages her students to develop new and creative ideas independently in practical projects. Through discussions and a final presentation of their ideas, her students can acquire soft skills that will be relevant for them in the future workplace.
Teaching Prize in the Project Category
The project Applied Product Development in Process Engineering won the Project Category in the 2018 Teaching Prize. Thanks to a module supervised by Professor Matthias Wessling, Chair of Chemical Process Engineering and vice-rector for research and structure, Dana Kaubitzsch, Daniel Bell, and Ilka Rose, Master’s students have the opportunity to gain practical work experience in industry. By working on real-life tasks in close contact with professionals, students can apply their knowledge in product development and project management in an industrial setting.
