Umbrella Award for Francisco Gutiérrez Guzman
RWTH Scholar honored for superb research on damage mechanisms in anti-friction bearings.
The recipient of the Umbrella Award at RWTH Aachen University is Francisco Gutiérrez Guzman from the Institute for Machine Elements and Systems Engineering. Prizes were also awarded to Xiaoyou Yiu from Forschungszentrum Jülich and Lior Kornblum from Technion – the Israel Institute of Technology. It is now the second time that the prize worth 5,000 euros has been awarded to outstanding scientists of the three umbrella partners – RWTH Aachen, Forschungszentrum Jülich and Technion in Israel. The award ceremony took place in the framework of the 33rd Umbrella Symposium on the topic of "Energy Conversion" and "Energy Storage" at Forschungszentrum Jülich. More than 60 scientists had gathered to exchange their views and ideas on the current state of research on energy conversion and storage technologies.
Guzman has been researching the field of bearing technology at the Institute for Machine Elements and Systems Engineering since April 2014. His key focus is on the clarification of damage mechanisms in anti-friction bearings. He is head of the "Roller bearings and Freewheels" research group and founder and head of the "Drivetrain and Generators" research group that is supported by the European Energy Research Alliance, or EERA for short.
The Umbrella Cooperation between RWTH Aachen University, Forschungszentrum Jülich, and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology – was established in 1983 to strengthen the cooperation in science and technology. The partnership also offers students and early career researchers of both countries the opportunity to gain fresh insights via student exchanges, summer schools, or joint research projects.
