Family-Friendly University
RWTH Aachen University was honored with a certificate with the quality seal for its family-friendly staff policy for the fourth time at the 21st audit berufundfamilie service GmbH’s award ceremony.
The certificate was awarded by patron Dr. Franziska Giffey, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth, John-Philip Hammersen, Managing Director of the nonprofit Hertie Foundation, and Oliver Schmitz, Managing Director of berufundfamilie Service GmbH.
In the past year, RWTH successfully passed the berufundfamilie service GmbH’s audit family-friendly university. The service provider visited the University several times to hold management, group, and one-on-one discussions. As a result, they developed an action program with the Rector’s Office, which focused on four key topics. The University is now entitled to hold the certificate for another three years. During this period, RWTH must adhere to the policies related to family and different life phases that are outlined in the action program.
The family-friendly university audit is a key offer from berufundfamilie Service GmbH and is based on an initiative from the non-profit Hertie Foundation. It supports employers in designing and implementing sustainable staff policies, research, and study conditions that take the factors of family and changes in particular life phases into account.
The event was held in Berlin under the motto Diversity Ahead - on Course for Progressive Human Resources Management. Besides the certificate award ceremony, the event also offered a platform for networking and exchanges with other audited institutions as well as advertising the University's endeavors in this area. For example, in the practical exchange science@work, Manuela Aye, Head of the Staff Unit: Human Resources, Gender, and Diversity Management – IGaD, presented the topic of diversity management at RWTH.
