Intersex and Transsexual People at the University
RWTH Provides Guidance on Treating Them With Respect.
RWTH invites you to join them for the lecture Intersex and Transsexual People at the University: Guidance on Treating Intersex and Transsexual Students With Respect on Friday, July 5, 2019. In addition to the previous binary options "male" and "female", a new term, "divers", roughly translated as "other", is now used to designate a third sex as a result of an amendment to the Civil Status Act.
This change has led to some uncertainty when dealing with intersex and transsexual people. For example, what first names and form of address should we use? What legal hurdles must be faced and what anti-discrimination protection is in place for people who come out during their studies or at the workplace?
Petra Weitzel, first chair of dgti e.V. – the German Society for Transsexuality and Intersexuality – will give a lecture on this subject. The event is organized by the RWTH Equal Opportunities Office, together with the Student Union – AStA’S Equal Opportunities Project, and the Queerreferat of the Universities of Aachen.
The event will take place in German at 5:30pm at the Queerreferat, Trichtergasse 14 in Aachen. Admission is free of charge.
