Extra Occupational Master Course of Study in Logistics Ending with an RWTH Aachen Degree
The logistics market, growing disproportionately annually, is in continuous demand of well trained logistics experts – broadly independent of economic fluctuations. Outstanding professional prospects are available to academically trained specialists and managers. The Master course of study, now its second year and organized by RWTH Aachen in collaboration with Haus der Technik in Essen, provides the necessary technical foundation.
The course of study is conceptualized in a way so that individuals can manage it in addition to their job. The current contact course takes place over an electronic learning platform and is supplemented by in person events; this is an important help. The concentration of in person events on weekends allows students to travel from further distances – even from Liechtenstein and Switzerland, for example.
The course of study in Logistics is composed entirely of engineering and economic components, thus distinguishing itself from simple Logistics Management. It takes into consideration specific information technology as well. The first section is dedicated to the economic and technical fundamentals of logistics. The following sections deal with cross-cutting issues in logistics, logistics networks, and production systems – with a particular focus on intralogistics.
Corresponding to RWTH Aachen’s strengths, the course of study content is very much quantitatively oriented, which is also a special characteristic. The full depth of the spectrum of topics in logistics is covered. Additional elective subjects enable students to specialize: port, airport, and automobile logistics, after sales logistics, sustainability in logistics, and letter and package services create a broad spectrum. The course of study is accredited by ASIIN.
In addition to RWTH Aachen, who is in charge, professors from eight other universities also contribute. Haus der Technik has succeeded in obtaining prominent top performers from around the entire country and neighboring countries for the subdisciplines in the course of study. Another particular characteristic is the inclusion of important companies from the sector in the preparation and carrying out of the course of study. Numerous practitioners take part in the modules. In the future, the international alignment will be strengthened, through, for example, a voluntary module abroad.
Target groups include engineers, natural scientists, and economists with a first university degree (at least a Bachelor). The course of study is also suited for graduates from other courses of study, through its interdisciplinary content.
The course of study is beginning its third year at Haus der Technik, Essen, on October 12, 2012.
