The Exploring Virtuality conference, linked to the Exploring Uncertainty conference from last year, will take place at forumM from November 4 to 6, 2012. Speakers from various disciplines will present differing perspectives on the concept of virtuality. They will highlight and discuss both the humanistic perspective, which has already been intensively researched, as well the increased significance of virtuality in natural and technical disciplines that is now becoming visible. This growing importance has led to and continues to lead to new methods and insights.
Science of the highest quality is guaranteed: Keynotes will be held by Prof. Dr. Martin Eigner (Chair of Virtual Product Development, University of Kaiserslautern), Ibrahim Evsan (Founder of sevenload.com and Fliplife.com), Prof. Dr. Oliver Grau (Chair of Image Science, Danube University Krems), Prof. Dr. Dieter Kranzlmüller (Member of the Board of Directors for the Leibniz Supercomputing Center Munich), Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lippert (Director of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre), and Prof. Dr. Stefan Rieger (Professorship for Media History and Communication Theory, Ruhr-Universität Bochum). The portfolio is further expanded through presentations in the field of media law, neurosurgery, economics, theology, production technology, sociology, psychology, design, architecture, and eLearning.
Furthermore, talented researchers are called to present their research on the topic of virtuality in the form of a poster. The best posters will be awarded with up to 1,500 Euros. In addition to the presentations, “Exploring Virtuality” offers diverse possibilities for discussions and for interdisciplinary exchanges, supplemented by an extraordinary cultural and artistic social program. The conference will be held in German.
The event is targeted towards researchers and students from all disciplines and is coordinated by the association of institutes IMA/ZLW & IfU, Prof. Sabina Jeschke from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Chair of Computer Graphics and Multimedia, and Prof. Leif Kobbelt from the RWTH Aachen University Faculty of Natural Sciences.
The registration deadline is October 15, 2012. The conference organizers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
