According to the NRW Ministry of Health, Equal Opportunities, Care and Ageing, the Center for Mental Health serves as a role model for the educational sector for the promotion of mental health among students. The advising center for students and doctoral candidates from RWTH Aachen and the Aachen University of Applied Sciences has now been integrated into the federal state’s “Healthy NRW” initiative.

At the Center, a team of psychiatrists, psychotherapists and social educators offers students advice and support in cases of emotional or psychological difficulties or life crises. The advisory sessions, which on request can also be held in English, are free of charge.

“We are really pleased with this recognition,” states Professor Frank Schneider, Director of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, the parent institution of the advising center. “It goes to show that politicians are concerned about the increasing number of students in need of psychological or psychiatric treatment and thus support programs and institutions addressing the problem."

Information on all innovative projects and ideas for the promotion of health that have been selected for the “Healthy NRW” initiative is accessible through an online database (de).
