24/09/2012

Earlier this month, an RWTH delegation led by Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg attended the GAIN Conference in Boston, MA. At the conference, Schmachtenberg and Manfred Nettekoven, the Chancellor of RWTH Aachen University,  participated in panel discussions on the higher education sector in Germany. The aim of the GAIN Conference is to provide German early-career scientists currently living in the USA with information about career opportunities at German universities.

The members of the delegation also visited several educational and research institutions in the US, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Dartmouth College, where they discussed existing and prospective research projects, opportunities for future collaboration, and funding programs.

Furthermore, RWTH Aachen, together with the TU9 consortium of German universities of technology, hosted a reception in Boston for RWTH alumni and delegates from German research institutions.

Finally, the delegation met with high-profile representatives from the Directorate for Engineering of the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Pleased with the outcome of the visit, Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg said that “it is impressive to see how broad and diverse the range of relations between German and US-American researchers really is. There are a large number of current research topics that we will continue to address in collaboration with our partners in the United States.”
