COSMO 19 Held at RWTH

23rd edition of the international conference on astroparticle physics and cosmology.

How did the universe start? What is it made up of? And will it end one day? These are the topics that scientists all over the world are intensely researching. From September 2 to 6, 2019, they will come to COSMO 19, hosted by RWTH, to discuss current developments in cosmology and astroparticle physics. The conference will particular focus on the physics of the early universe, gravitational waves, black holes, and dark matter.

Public Lecture

As part of the conference, there will be a public outreach lecture in English: Our Universe: the Beginning, and an End". This will take place at 8pm on September 5 in Lecture Hall H03 at C.A.R.L. lecture hall complex.

The universe was originally in a hot and dense state, similar to a fireball. The light that filled this “fireball universe” has not disappeared. It is called the "cosmic microwave background" and can be collected to explore how the universe began and then evolved. Eiichiro Komatsu, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Munich, presents the history, latest results, and the future of cosmic microwave background research in his lecture.
