Award for Two RWTH Graduates

The Stiftung Deutscher Architekten awarded four prizes to graduates in architecture courses of study in North Rhine-Westphalia. Two RWTH Aachen graduates received an award: engineers Andreas Klozoris and Pentti Marttunen were honored for their Diplom theses in Düsseldorf.

 

Klozoris received award money in the amount of 4500 euros for his Diplom thesis "re-think Mutrah". He worked on the thesis at the Institute of Urban Construction and Planning under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Kunibert Wachten and Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Rolf Westerheide. Klozoris worked on a careful and sustainable restructuring and scaffolding of the harbor area in the capital city of Mutrah in Oman. He took into consideration the ever increasing swarms of visitors, the quick social, cultural, and demographic changes, and the unstoppable urge for modernization. Klozoris studied from 2004 to 2011, and has been an academic staff member and doctoral candidate since 2012.

Pentti Marttunen studied at RWTH Aachen from 2005 to 2011 and and at ETH Zürich as a visiting student for two semesters. He won 2500 euros for his Diplom thesis titled "Youth Camp Finland". His thesis "interpreted the socially shaped typology of the confirmee camps with a spatial structure developed from the location". He wrote his thesis at the Chair of Building Construction under the direction of Univ.- Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Hartwig Schneider. Marttunen has been working at an architecture office in Stuttgart since finishing his studies in 2012.
