Title
Planning Tool and Engineering Services for the Electrification of Public Bus Fleets
Concept
This project will explore the marketability of software-based consulting services that help making the transition happen (platform MTH) from diesel to electric buses (e-buses) in municipal bus fleets (platform SCS). That transition is important because electrification of these fleets is the only way for local public transport companies (LPT) to substantially reduce environmentally harmful emissions. Some municipalities have already launched stand-alone test projects to gain initial experience. However, this “try & error”-approach of the municipal bodies is rather inefficient. The likelihood of costly mistakes being made in selecting less that optimal e-bus and charging station solutions is rather high. Far better would be avoiding these pitfalls from the very beginning through an advanced software-based planning process and to manage the enormous complexity of the process properly. The software-based consulting services should help handling the complexity, improving the planning process in speed and quality, and reduce costs.
