Aachen California Network of Student and Staff Exchange

18/06/2013

The Aachen California Network of Student and Staff Exchange, ACalNet for short, is a thematic network of the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, that promotes closer collaboration between RWTH Aachen and universities in California. The network is financed by the BMBF and offers students, doctoral candidates, and academic staff at the university the possibility to complete a research stay at a university abroad.  This makes it possible to complete a Bachelor, Master, or doctoral thesis as part of an exchange with the partner universities in California. ACalNet has four primary goals:

  • Increased visibility of RWTH Aachen worldwide
  • Long term research cooperations with outstanding universities abroad
  • Internationalization of studies and teaching
  • Improvement of education

There are currently four universities participating in ACalNet: RWTH Aachen University, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, UC Santa Barbara. The non-university partners CAT Catalytic Center from Bayer MaterialScience and Bayer Technology Services in Aachen and the Schlumberg Doll Research Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, offer additional internships placements for interested students. The future plan is to expand the network to include other German and American partners.

All interested individuals are welcome to attend the ACalNet kickoff workshop on June 26 and 27, 2013, at the Asinger Lernzentrum, Sammelbau Chemie, Worringer Weg 1. The program includes a general overview of the network, relevant information to discuss, and an introduction of the individual project partners in California and at RWTH Aachen. Registration is not required. More information is available on the ACalNet website.

The press is welcome to attend to the event and we are gladly available to answer additional questions. If interested, please contact:
