Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. Carmen Leicht-Scholten from the RWTH Aachen Teaching and Research Area Gender and Diversity in Engineering was chosen by the German European Cooperation in Science and Technology office to represent Germany in the EU research network genderSTE. Leicht-Scholt will assume office for four years together with her deputy representatives Prof. Dr. Martina Schraudner from the Fraunhofer Association and Prof. Dr. Barbara Zibell from the University of Hanover.

The EU research network genderSTE began at the end of 2012 as part of the COST initiative to strengthen European collaboration in research. Here decision makers from politics meet experts from the fields of gender, science, engineering, and technology. The goal is to implement gender focused measures in science and technology. The Federal Republic of Germany has been a member of this network since June 4, 2013.

Leicht-Scholten studied political science, sociology, and Romance studies at the universities in Heidelberg, Aachen, and Seville. She has worked at RWTH Aachen since 2003. She contributed to the development of the institutional strategy in the proposal submitted as part of the Excellence Initiative and coordinates the development of gender and diversity strategies at RWTH Aachen. During 2010 and 2011, she was a visiting professor of "Gender and Diversity Management in Engineering" at TU Berlin.
