Title
Smart Sustainable Districts Moabit
Concept
Climate-KIC’s decision to select Moabit West as a pilot district for the SSD project was based on the comprehensive catalogue of measures outlined in the 2014 Green Moabit district development strategy (StEK) and also on the fact that there are active networks of citizen and company initiatives in the area. Under the direction of TU Berlin’s CHORA city&energy institute, since mid-2014 the project team has brought on board several local partners from Mitte borough, the business network, the district administration and the urban utilities, and has explored options for implementing integrated district solutions in Moabit West. In February 2016, planning began for potential research and implementation projects in the fields of energy and thermal efficiency, sustainable water management and carbon-neutral mobility. The Smart Citizen Network Board (SCNB) was established as a cooperative steering mechanism in December 2015.
