Studies for Senior Citizens Starts Again

Studies for senior citizens for winter semester 2013/14 is being kicked off with an orientation event on Monday, October 7, 2013, from 10am to 12:30pm. The event will take place in seminar room 603, 6th floor, HKW 5 (former heat and power station), Wüllnerstraße 1 in Aachen. Here, all interested individuals can get information about this service at RWTH Aachen. Afterwards, there will be a tour through the center of the university.

 

Registration is open from September 2 to October 25, 2013. Registration documents and bank transfer forms are included in the course catalog. Senior citizens students who were admitted to the past two semesters will receive the catalog in the mail. It is also available in banks, in some Sparkasse branches, and in bookstores in town. You can also find the catalog at some of the university's service centers, such as the Registrar's Office and the Info Center in the SuperC, Templergraben 57, or in the Info Center in the Main Building, Templergraben 55.

The focus of studies for senior citizens are courses regularly offered by all the faculties, that have been opened up to this target group. RWTH Aachen is opening up dialogue between younger and older adults, from which both sides profit. Additionally, there are courses that are exclusively offered for senior citizen students.

The popular Wednesday seminar will continue to consist of contributions from different faculties. Presentations range from "Artificial Intelligence (Desire or Already a Reality?)" to "NS Medicine in Aachen" to "What makes us snap" and will offer the time and space for discussions.

Work communities and conversation groups that are organized and headed by senior citizen students themselves are also offered. The program includes the excursion "Tour of the Workshops for Stained Glass, Mosaic, and Restorations in Kevelaer".

For just 100 euros a semester – the fee can be waived in some individual cases – senior citizens can choose from the entire program and put together a comprehensive schedule. Only a few courses require an extra fee. As an auditor, you are not required to choose a specific course of study. All individuals are welcome to participate, regardless of age or final exam. Participants will not receive an academic degree. This can only be obtained through regular studies.
